WHY STARTER TENNIS?

Thousands of youngsters over the past ten to fifteen years have started to play tennis through Short Tennis, many have continued to play and progressed through to tennis itself.
Short tennis has been, and will continue to be, a prime factor in introducing players to the game, but it will not be the only one in the future, with coaches trained to introduce players to Short Tennis, Transition Tennis and tennis as and when needed. Most adult players start by playing the full game, this may be appropriate, but the transition game may be a more suitable starting point for younger players - hence the rationale for Starter Tennis.

Starter Tennis offers a variety of opportunities for new players to find a degree of enjoyment and proficiency that enables them to enjoy the sport at a level appropriate to them. It also, therefore, provides the best opportunities for personal development and a vibrant sport in this country.

THE OBJECTIVES OF STARTER TENNIS

  • To establish a clear and available path for all players to progress at their own pace in Starter Tennis, transition tennis and tennis itself, so they remain in the sport they enjoy and improve their standard.
  • To show parents the benefits which a sustained co-ordinated and integrated approach to tennis can offer their children and make them aware of good practice and development of young players.
  • To give players opportunities to play throughout the year and at a local level when required.
  • To have fun!!

THE AIM OF STARTER TENNIS IS TO MAKE THE GAME FIT THE PLAYER.
